Lots of funny shows on TV these days. I’ll list the funniest ones out.
1. Community - I’d say that this is the best comedy on TV right now. It goes off page very often, and the writing is amazingly daring for a comedy show constantly on the fringe of cancellation! Most of its episodes are pretty grounded and follow a study group, components of which can only be described as anti-hero personas. The dialogue is heavily referential to obscure stuff which only certain people would get. The best part of the show though, is the self referential meta stuff that you’ll miss if you blink. It is not quite at the level of Arrested Development self-referentialism, but it takes it in a different direction than AD did. The latest episode as of the writing of this post featured branching timelines, and the manifestations thereof. Another episode featured a game of Dungeons & Dragons, and when I say featured, I mean that it was the main plot point. So watch the shit out of it!
2. Parks and Recreation - Started out shadowing The Office(US), but then it evolved pretty quickly to a pretty different beast. There’s a faux documentary style, which lends itself to the abundant awkward camera stare sort of moments. It follows a government Parks and Recreation office in a county called Pawnee. The characters are pretty diverse in matter of personalities and behavior, which leads to clashes therein pretty damn often. Not too referential, and much of the humour is derived from the self-contained episodic storylines and the reactions of the characters to those situations. It is pretty damn awesome, so watch this one as well!
